How to mute a player in Rust

Type global.mute "PlayerName" in the server console so that player can no longer send chat messages. global.unmute lifts it.

global.mute

Mutes a connected player so they cannot send chat messages.

mute <player>

Examples

mute "PlayerName"

Mute a player in chat.

Arguments

playerRequired
Name, partial name or Steam64 ID of a connected player.

What it does

Stops the player from using text chat until you unmute them. An optional expiry makes the mute temporary. Use unmute to lift it early.

The game's own description: Mutes the specified connected player preventing them from using chat; optionally accepts a mute expiry timestamp for temporary mutes

Good to know

  • mutelist shows who is muted.

Run it on your server

Type it in the server console or send it over RCON; admins can also use the F1 console in game. To keep a setting, run server.writecfg after changing it, or put it on the launch line as +name value.
