How to make a timer in Minecraft

Type /stopwatch create mymap:race in chat as an operator to start a stopwatch, then /stopwatch query mymap:race to read the elapsed time.

stopwatch

Creates and reads named stopwatches that measure elapsed time, for timers in functions and maps.

/stopwatch <create|query|restart|remove> <id> [<scale>]

Examples

/stopwatch create mymap:race

Starts a stopwatch.

/stopwatch query mymap:race

Shows the elapsed time.

/stopwatch restart mymap:race

Resets it to zero.

Arguments

idRequired
Stopwatch ID, for example mymap:race.
scaleOptional
Multiplier for the queried value.

What it does

create starts a stopwatch with an ID, query returns its elapsed time multiplied by an optional scale, restart sets it back to zero and remove deletes it. Use execute store result with query to put the time in a score, or execute if stopwatch <id> <range> to check it.

Good to know

  • Needs operator permission level 2.

Run it on your server

On a SLASHPLAY server, type it in the Console tab without the leading slash; in game, operators type it in chat with the slash. New to this? Start a Minecraft server first.
