How to broadcast a message in Minecraft

Type say Server restarting in 5 minutes in the server console, or /say in chat as an operator, and every player sees it.

say

Broadcasts a message to every player in chat, prefixed with the sender's name.

/say <message>

Examples

/say Server restarting in 5 minutes

Warns everyone in chat.

say Backup starting, expect a short lag

From the server console, without the slash.

Arguments

What it does

From the server console the message shows as [Server]. Target selectors in the text, such as @p, are replaced with player names. For colors or clickable text, use tellraw instead.

Good to know

  • Needs operator permission level 2.

Run it on your server
