How to change the player timeout in GMod

Type sv_timeout 60 in the server console to drop players whose game stops sending data after 60 seconds. The default is 180.

sv_timeout

Sets how many seconds the server waits for a silent client before dropping it.

sv_timeout <seconds>

Examples

sv_timeout 60

Drop dead connections after a minute.

Arguments

secondsRequired
Timeout in seconds.

What it does

Players whose game stops sending data, for example after a crash or lost connection, are removed after this time and their slot is freed. Lower it to clear ghost players faster.

The game's own description: After this many seconds without a message from a client, the client is dropped

Good to know

  • sv_timeout_signon applies while a player is still connecting.

Run it on your server

On a SLASHPLAY server, type it in the Console tab of the server page; the reply shows right under it. A value set there lasts until the server restarts. To keep it, add the line to garrysmod/cfg/server.cfg. New to this? Start a GMod server first.
