How to turn on the minimal HUD in TF2
Type cl_hud_minmode 1 in your game console for a smaller, simpler HUD with a clearer view. cl_hud_minmode 0 restores the default.

Type it in your own game console: turn on the developer console in the game's settings, then press the key under Esc. To keep it, put the line in tf/cfg/autoexec.cfg.
