How to ban a player on a TF2 server

Type banid 0 12 kick in the server console to ban user ID 12 permanently and kick them. Run writeid so the ban survives a restart.

banid

Bans a player by user ID or Steam ID for a number of minutes. 0 bans permanently.

banid <minutes> <userid|steamid> [kick]

Examples

banid 0 12 kick

Permanently ban user ID 12 and kick them.

banid 60 [U:1:12345678]

One hour ban by Steam ID.

Arguments

minutesRequired
Ban length. 0 is permanent.
userid|steamidRequired
User ID from status, or Steam ID.
kickOptional
Also kick the player now.

What it does

Add kick at the end to remove the player at the same time. Bans live in memory until you save them with writeid.

The game's own description: Add a user ID to the ban list.

Good to know

  • Run writeid to save permanent bans to banned_user.cfg, and exec that file in server.cfg so bans survive a restart.

Run it on your server

On a SLASHPLAY server, type it in the Console tab of the server page; the reply shows right under it. A value set there lasts until the server restarts. To keep it, add the line to tf/cfg/server.cfg. New to this? Start a TF2 server first.
