How to make props persistent in GMod

Type sbox_persist build1 in the server console to unlock Make Persistent in the prop context menu. Persistent props respawn after restarts and map changes.

sbox_persist

Enables the Make Persistent option for props and names the save slot used to keep them across map loads.

sbox_persist <name>

Examples

sbox_persist build1

Turn on persistence using a slot called build1.

sbox_persist ""

Turn persistence off.

Arguments

nameRequired
Name of the persistence slot. Empty disables the feature.

What it does

When set to any non-empty name, players with permission get a Make Persistent option in the context menu for props. Persistent props are saved for the current map and respawn after a restart or map change. The value is the name of the persistence slot, so switching it to a different name loads a different set of saved props.

The game's own description: If not empty, enables 'Make Persistent' option when you right click on props while holding C, allowing you to save them across sessions. Changing this convar will save existing persistent props, cleanup the whole map and load props from given file.

Good to know

  • Persistent props are stored per map.

Run it on your server

On a SLASHPLAY server, type it in the Console tab of the server page; the reply shows right under it. A value set there lasts until the server restarts. To keep it, add the line to garrysmod/cfg/server.cfg. New to this? Start a GMod server first.
