How to add Workshop addons to a GMod server

Add +host_workshop_collection 123456789 to the server's launch options with your collection's ID, and the server downloads every addon in it at startup.

host_workshop_collection

Sets the Steam Workshop collection ID whose addons the dedicated server downloads and mounts on startup.

host_workshop_collection <collection id>

Examples

+host_workshop_collection 123456789

Launch command line form, with your own collection ID.

Arguments

collection idRequired
Numeric ID of a public Steam Workshop collection.

What it does

Copy the number from the end of the collection's Workshop URL. The server downloads every item in the collection when it starts. Players are not sent these addons automatically: the server must tell clients to download them, usually with resource.AddWorkshop in a Lua file.

The game's own description: Set to a Steam Workshop Collection ID, and the dedicated server will download Workshop items from given collection on start up.

Good to know

  • Make sure the collection is public.
  • Restart the server to pick up items added to the collection.

Run it on your server

On a SLASHPLAY server, type it in the Console tab of the server page; the reply shows right under it. A value set there lasts until the server restarts. To keep it, add the line to garrysmod/cfg/server.cfg. New to this? Start a GMod server first.
