How to make physics more stable in GMod

Type gmod_physiterations 8 in the server console so welded contraptions wobble and explode less, at the cost of more server CPU. The default is 4.

gmod_physiterations

Sets how many extra physics solver passes run each tick, making large constraint contraptions more stable.

gmod_physiterations <iterations>

Examples

gmod_physiterations 8

Steadier contraptions on a building server.

gmod_physiterations 2

Cheaper physics on a crowded server.

Arguments

iterationsRequired
Extra solver iterations per tick.

What it does

More solver iterations make welded and constrained contraptions wobble and explode less, at the cost of more server CPU. Raise it if builds keep shaking apart, lower it if physics is using too much CPU on a busy server.

The game's own description: Additional solver iterations make constraint systems more stable.

Run it on your server

On a SLASHPLAY server, type it in the Console tab of the server page; the reply shows right under it. A value set there lasts until the server restarts. To keep it, add the line to garrysmod/cfg/server.cfg. New to this? Start a GMod server first.
