How to run a config file in GMod

Type exec server.cfg in the server console to run every line of that file from the garrysmod/cfg folder, for example after editing it.

exec

Runs every command in a config file from the cfg folder.

exec <filename>

Examples

exec server.cfg

Re-apply the main server config.

exec banned_user.cfg

Load saved bans.

Arguments

filenameRequired
Config file in garrysmod/cfg, the .cfg extension is optional.

What it does

Reads the file from garrysmod/cfg and runs each line as a console command. Use it to apply a set of settings at once, or to re-apply server.cfg after editing it.

The game's own description: Execute script file.

Good to know

  • server.cfg runs automatically on every map load.

Run it on your server

On a SLASHPLAY server, type it in the Console tab of the server page; the reply shows right under it. A value set there lasts until the server restarts. To keep it, add the line to garrysmod/cfg/server.cfg. New to this? Start a GMod server first.
