How to set an RCON password on a TF2 server
Type rcon_password "a-long-random-password" in the server console or server.cfg to allow remote admin. Leave it empty to disable RCON.
rcon_password
Sets the password for remote console access to the server.
rcon_password <password> Examples
rcon_password "a-long-random-password" Enable RCON with a strong password.
Arguments
passwordRequired- RCON password.
On SLASHPLAY
The Console tab refuses it, because the dashboard uses it. Change the RCON password with Edit or Generate next to the RCON password on the General tab.
What it does
RCON lets admins run server commands from their own game or a tool. Use a long password. Empty disables RCON.
The game's own description: remote console password.
Good to know
- Set it in server.cfg, never in a file players can download.
- Repeated wrong passwords get the sender banned, see
sv_rcon_maxfailures.
Run it on your server
On a SLASHPLAY server, type it in the Console tab of the server page; the reply shows right under it. A value set there lasts until the server restarts. To keep it, add the line to tf/cfg/server.cfg. New to this? Start a TF2 server first.
