How to change waiting for players time in TF2

Type mp_waitingforplayers_time 10 in the server console to shorten the warm up at map start to 10 seconds. The default is 30.

mp_waitingforplayers_time

Sets how many seconds the waiting for players period lasts at the start of a map.

mp_waitingforplayers_time <seconds>

Examples

mp_waitingforplayers_time 10

Short warm up before the first round.

Arguments

secondsRequired
Length of the warm up in seconds.

What it does

When a map loads, TF2 runs a warm up period where players can run around before the first real round. This value is its length in seconds. Lowering it gets games started faster on community servers.

The game's own description: WaitingForPlayers time length in seconds

Good to know

  • This build flags the setting as development-only, so a retail server may not accept the change. mp_waitingforplayers_cancel 1 always ends the warm up.

Use it in your game

Type it in your own game console: turn on the developer console in the game's settings, then press the key under Esc. To keep it, put the line in tf/cfg/autoexec.cfg.
