How to change the emitter limit in GMod

Type sbox_maxemitters 5 in the server console so each player can place 5 particle emitters at once, which helps players' frame rates; -1 lifts it.

sbox_maxemitters

Sets the maximum number of emitters each player can have spawned at once on a Sandbox server.

sbox_maxemitters <count>

Examples

sbox_maxemitters 5

Fewer particle emitters, which can hurt client frame rates.

sbox_maxemitters -1

No limit. Only sensible on small private servers.

Arguments

countRequired
Maximum emitters per player.

What it does

Caps how many emitters a single player can own at the same time. When a player reaches the cap, Sandbox shows a limit message and refuses to spawn more until they remove some. Counts particle emitters placed with the Emitter tool. Many emitters mostly hurt players' frame rates rather than the server.

The game's own description: Maximum emitters a single player can create

Good to know

  • A negative value such as -1 removes the limit, and 0 blocks spawning entirely.
  • Limits are not applied in single player.
  • The limit counts per player, so the server total can be this value times the player count.

Run it on your server

On a SLASHPLAY server, type it in the Console tab of the server page; the reply shows right under it. A value set there lasts until the server restarts. To keep it, add the line to garrysmod/cfg/server.cfg. New to this? Start a GMod server first.
